Lightweight Touring Bags

Have been asked about this a few times so….

I was asked the other day what are good bags for lightweight touring in China. Hotels / BB / food joints are everywhere and not many camping options so go quick and light. I’ve been using a large front / rear panniers for sometime as well as a large canvas seat bag. Panniers are too big for short weekend trips and the large canvas seat bag hits the back of my legs. On last trip overseas i picked up a new large seat bag and bar bag which seems to be best balance of aero, weight, balance, fit etc. Tried on my mountain, touring, road and TT bike and dont really notice them too much. Suggest the large saddle bag over front bag if you only need one. Also frame bags a good idea as well. Can fit everything i need into them for “credit card” / hotel touring.

I use the Arkel bag. The bag is a little heavy (a bit of padding), but really high quality. Comes with a rain cover. Rack is lightweight aluminium and claims to be lightest on the market. Still that’s more weight than the pictured Apidura bag.

This is the official Chinese re-seller (I was directed here from their Customer Service Rep). Prices inflated a bit here in China
Recommend the Randonneur Rack & Tailrider Trunk Bag. Need the Brooks saddle adapter if riding w/Brooks saddle. I like the saddle mount b/c most of the weight is held by the seat rails and plastic mount on seat post stabilizes and cushions rack.
